Downtown Dallas’ newest full service hotel plans to open its doors next month.
The 219-room Thompson Dallas is part of the $460 million redevelopment of downtown’s landmark First National Bank Tower.
Renamed The National, the 52-story Elm Street building has been renovated into a mixed-use project with hotel rooms, apartments, retail and offices.
It’s a project of Dallas’ Todd Interests and has been in the works for years.
The Thompson Dallas hotel plans to open on Nov. 14 as the first phase of The National’s debut.
“Thompson brings a sophisticated, luxurious and energetic brand to The National,” says Philip Todd, Todd Interests Partner. “It’s what you might see in the best neighborhoods in Manhattan or in Mayfair, London, while remaining authentic and true to Dallas “
The luxury hotel will include 52 suites and two penthouse suites. And there will be two eateries in the hotel.
The hotel’s fourth floor National Ballroom has 14,000 square feet of space. And there are two acres of indoor-outdoor amenities on the ninth floor, which has a spa, fitness and wellness center, and a resort-style pool.
“We can’t wait to join the Dallas community and serve not only those traveling but also the people of the city,” Steve Shern, General Manager of Thompson Dallas, said in a statement.
The Thompson Dallas hotel rooms are located in the tower portion of the building, along with The National Residences’ 324 luxury apartments.
Built in 1965, the former First National Bank Tower has been downtown Dallas’ largest vacant building. The office building closed in 2010 when occupancy in the tower declined.
The landmark high-rise was designed by noted Dallas architects George Dahl and Thomas Stanley.
Dallas’ Merriman Anderson Architects designed the renovations, and Andres Construction is the general contractor.
Todd Interests partnered with investor Moriah Real Estate to acquire the skyscraper after the previous developers couldn’t obtain funding to continue the project.
