200 Best Travel Deals For Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Travel Tuesday

Working on your travel bucket list? Black Friday and Cyber Monday are coming, followed by Travel Tuesday on December 1. After reviewing thousands of sales on trips, hotels, cruises and more, I whittled down the list to the 200 most amazing deals for Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Travel Tuesday—and this year, the discounts are not only endless, they’re historically low.

“This year, prices are already down 40% from this time last year and travelers will see even bigger discounts on Travel Deal Tuesday, with prices expected to be 34% lower compared to last year,” says Liana Corwin, consumer travel expert at travel booking app, Hopper, which collects 25 to 30 billion flight and hotel price quotes every day and has built a huge historical archive of trillions of prices from over the past several years.

But there are some things to know when going into the Black Friday sale season—especially during a pandemic. For one thing, with uncertainty around future travel plans, flexibility will be key, so you should make sure the company you’re booking with has flexible travel policies when it comes to their Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Travel Tuesday deals.

As you navigate the deals, you should also keep in mind that timing is everything, and most of these Black Friday deals are only available for a short window and for travel on specific dates. Be sure to check the fine print before you purchase anything and look for restrictions like nonrefundable rates, minimum stays, black-out dates and upfront payments. And of course, if you’re taking a trip before a coronavirus vaccine has been released, you should check travel restrictions for the destination you are hoping to visit and consider warnings from the State Department and the CDC. Travelers should also take precautions to keep themselves and others safe. “Deciding when to travel again is a personal decision,” says Corwin. “Though 39% say they plan to travel for the holidays, many are looking ahead to travel further in the future.

Another note: I’ve listed Covid restrictions for some countries, which were current at press time, but be aware that things can change at any time in this ever-shifting travel landscape.

Now, read on for my highly curated sneak peek at this year’s best travel deals and sales for Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Travel Tuesday. And if you are loyal to a particular travel provider and you don’t see them listed here, check their websites for special offers.

Want to gift a vacation? Here are 11 refundable Black Friday and Cyber Monday travel deals

Every year, The Arizona Republic publishes a grand list of some of the great travel deals available for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In years past, readers have loved a chance to gift their family leisure time together to places they normally couldn’t afford to visit.

Putting together this list every year is a gigantic undertaking but one I thoroughly enjoy. Our culture, sadly, often looks as booking a vacation as excess.  But what I know from talking from Arizona Republic readers is that is not the case. People save up for years to have both the the money and time off to enjoy some quality moments with their loved ones.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday refundable travel deals: Mexico, Hawaii

CLOSE

Every year, The Arizona Republic publishes a grand list of some of the great travel deals available for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In years past, readers have loved a chance to gift their family leisure time together to places they normally couldn’t afford to visit.

Putting together this list every year is a gigantic undertaking but one I thoroughly enjoy. Our culture, sadly, often looks as booking a vacation as excess.  But what I know from talking from Arizona Republic readers is that is not the case. People save up for years to have both the the money and time off to enjoy some quality moments with their loved ones.

I know people look forward to scrolling through this list if only to dream of the places they could go if they had enough time or money.

This year presents a challenging landscape. In the midst of a global pandemic, a rising number of cases world wide and the limitation of ICU beds at home (and likely at the destination you might choose to travel), it felt irresponsible to suggest booking travel deals without flexibility or the opportunity to get your money back. That could put you in a position where you couldn’t cancel if you felt you shouldn’t travel.

Why we’re rounding up refundable travel deals in 2020

The U.S. has awful protections for consumers regarding travel and a lot of travelers this year have found themselves without the peace of mind they thought their travel insurance provided. Others have found themselves stuck with thousands of dollars in travel credits they can no longer use.

So much can change in this unpredictable environment. From joyous events like finding out you’re expecting a baby to struggles like finding out someone in your travel group was diagnosed with cancer, what may have been possible at one point may suddenly be infeasible. And, those life changes might mean you need that refund money in cash not a travel credit.

Yet, a lot of us are craving an escape and half the joy of travel is dreaming and planning where you might go.

That’s why after careful discussion, we decided to move forward with our deals list, but to only feature offers that are refundable. For each deal, I’ve not only included the fine print and travel dates but also the cancellation policy. If you book the deal, I suggest adding a calendar reminder in your phone to make sure you cancel by the designated deadline.

Also, I urge you to continue to follow the advice of public health officials, and if you feel sick, do not travel.

Now, without further ado, here is our 2020 list of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

Why Hotel and Vacation Stocks Popped on Monday

What happened

Shares of hotel and vacation stocks soared on Monday after Pfizer announced positive data from its COVID-19 study. Shares of Hyatt Hotels (NYSE:H) jumped as much as 26.8% and are up 20.7% at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Shares of competitor Hilton Worldwide Holdings (NYSE:HLT) were up 24.9% at their peak and are now up 12.7%.

Vail Resorts (NYSE:MTN) and Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) own hotels, as well, but they’re much more concerned with overall travel spending recovering at their resorts. Investors pushed their shares higher by 23.5% and 14.8%, respectively, at their peaks. As of this writing, Vail is still up 11.3%, while Las Vegas Sands is up 9.7%.

So what

The travel industry has been absolutely hammered by COVID-19 because of local shutdowns, as well as the general reduction in travel. Consumers aren’t flying as they did a year ago, and most companies have severely restricted travel. So it’s no surprise that any hope about a vaccine for COVID-19 will send the market higher and consumer discretionary stocks like these will be some of the biggest beneficiaries.

Below is a chart that shows just how devastating COVID-19 has been for these companies. Revenue dropped over 90% versus a year ago at Las Vegas Sands, and Vail and was down over 75% — the worst for all four companies. There’s been some recovery in the second half of 2020, but they’re all far from “normal” operating revenues.

IMAX Revenue (Quarterly) Chart

IMAX Revenue (Quarterly) data by YCharts.

The exact timing and magnitude of the impact of the vaccine on travel and hotel stocks aren’t known, but having some prospects for the end of the pandemic is certainly welcome news for investors. As I mentioned, revenue was already starting to pick up over the last few months, so if the risk of COVID-19 declines as the vaccine is distributed, it could accelerate the recovery. That’s the bullish case that investors are betting on today.

Now what

Is now the time to dive back into travel and hotel stocks? The vaccine may be good news, but we don’t know much more about how quickly it will be administered or when the business will get back to “normal” than we did last week. And if any bad news comes out, we could see stocks reverse today’s gains overnight.

I don’t think this is a fundamental reason to change your investment thesis on these stocks because nothing has really changed today — except for the market’s sentiment. Bullish investors can breathe a little easier knowing that a vaccine appears to be on the way and enjoy the day’s gains. But this pandemic is far from over, so don’t get too excited just yet.
