Christian McCaffrey shoulder injury: Questionable vs Vikings

Christian McCaffrey has been officially listed as questionable for the Carolina Panthers game vs. the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

McCaffrey was limited in practice all week with a shoulder injury suffered on the final drive of the Panthers’ Week 9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He has missed the past two games with the injury.

The running back missed six games prior to the Chiefs’ matchup while on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain.

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Friday that he is “pessimistic” that McCaffrey will be available, but that he is expected to travel with the team to Minnesota.

“I’m pessimistic that he’ll play, but he’s practiced well enough this week to earn the right to be listed as questionable,” Rhule said. “We’re kind of in a wait-and-see mode. But I’d label myself as pessimistic about his chances of playing.”

McCaffrey has proved valuable in all three games he’s played in. He has scored two touchdowns each week, despite leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game early with the ankle injury.

This season, the Panthers are 21st in rushing yards per game (106.4) and are 15th in yards per attempt (4.2).

While one offensive starter looks less likely to return, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (knee) has been removed from the injury report and is full go for Sunday’s game. Rhule said that he looks like he did prior to the injury.

Offensive lineman Dennis Daley (concussion) is out for Sunday’s game, while cornerback Donte Jackson (toe) is doubtful.

The Panthers will have a chance to get two starting offensive linemen back after both missed last week’s game. John Miller (ankle/knee) and Russell Okung (calf) are questionable for the game. Rookie safety Sam Franklin (ankle), defensive end Marquis Haynes (shoulder), linebacker Tahir Whitehead (rib) and wide receiver Brandon Zylstra are also questionable.

Rex Burkhead didn’t travel home with Patriots after suffering knee injury

Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn’t have any further updates on the severity of injuries sustained by Rex Burkhead and Isaiah Wynn in the team’s loss to the Texans on Sunday.

Burkhead suffered a serious and potentially season-ending knee injury in the third quarter, and the running back was carted off the field. Belichick said Burkhead didn’t travel home with the team from Houston, but he’ll be back soon to undergo tests to further evaluate him.

Wynn left in the fourth quarter on Sunday with a right leg injury. Belichick said the left tackle was going to have tests on Monday afternoon.

Burkhead’s injury, though, seems far more serious. Echoing sentiments from teammates after Sunday’s loss, Belichick had high praise for the running back, who was on pace for a career year before the injury.

“I always had a high appreciation and respect for Rex,” Belichick said. “Rex is a great teammate, works hard, does whatever he’s asked to do, he contributes in a lot of different areas. He’s always prepared, ready to go to do his best and he’s been productive for us in everything we’ve asked him to do on all four downs.”

In his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday morning, Cam Newton, who described Burkhead’s loss as “devastating” on Sunday, reiterated his disappointment.

“I just know how hard he works and I know he’s such a great guy, above all, and a lot of times as fans or people who follow the game from a far, you don’t necessarily get the in-depth relationships, what the person outside of what he may post on Instagram or what he may post on social media or what you may see on TV,” Newton said. “But Rex is one of the guys that you question or scratch your head like, how does something like this happen to him?

“He brings his lunch pail to work every single day, extremely low maintenance and all he wants to do is just win. When you have teammates like that on your team, it’s just devastating, just to see something like that happen to him.”

Rebel Wilson suffers injury while taking ‘hot photos’ on vacation

Rebel Wilson got injured while she was taking “hot photos” with her friends on the beach on Friday.

The “Pitch Perfect” star revealed on her Instagram Story that she was “banged up” with scratches and bruises on the last day of her vacation in Mexico.

“Ok guys, there’s been a little bit of a massive incident,” Wilson, 40, told her followers.

She explained, “We’re here in Mexico and we were taking hot photos out at the beach. Unfortunately while we were doing that, Nicole’s handbag washed into the ocean. It had her passport in it, which she’s currently drying.”

“Then I’m like ‘I’ll get it!’ because we gotta fly today. And then I got pretty banged up,” the “Hustle” actress revealed.

Wilson then panned the camera down to show her icing her chest and reveal the various scrapes on her body.

“Basically my left boob took most of the impact and it’s going to be very swollen and bruised and I was scraped down my stomach when I hit into the rock,” she said.

The actress jokingly added: “So guys, warning, when you’re taking hot photos just be careful because the waves can get you. Be ocean safe.”

“We got some incredible boomerangs though,” she quipped.

Wilson also gave this parting message to fans: “But don’t let your health and safety get destroyed because honestly, my boob is already big and it’s going to be very swollen after this.”

The “Isn’t It Romantic” star did share one photo from the morning stroll on her Instagram account.

She wore a sports bra and biker shorts showing off her slimmed-down figure as she stood on the balcony of her vacation room.

“What up BE-AtCH! (Woke up early, ready to smash a beach run),” Wilson joked in the caption.

Neymar to travel for World Cup qualifying despite injury

SAO PAULO (AP) — Neymar will come to South America for World Cup qualifying matches despite a groin injury he picked up in a Champions League match for Paris Saint-Germain.

Brazil coach Tite called Flamengo striker Pedro for the matches against Venezuela and Uruguay on Nov. 13 and 17, without removing Neymar from the squad.

Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar said he expects Neymar to be available for the clash at Uruguay “after an intensive week of training” with Brazil in Teresopolis, outside Rio de Janeiro.

“We have the chance of recovery for the second match,” Lasmar told Brazil’s soccer confederation website. “We will follow his development closely.”

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel said last week it would be “impossible” for Neymar to play for Brazil as he recovered from the injury.

Brazil has already lost four players for the two clashes, including three due to injury — midfielders Philippe Coutinho and Fabinho, and defender Rodrigo Caio.

Defender Eder Militão is out after contracting COVID-19.

Pedro, 23, was called for Brazil once in September 2018, but suffered a serious knee injury that stopped his debut and kept him out of action for months.

After a disappointingly short spell at Fiorentina, he came back to Brazil in the beginning of the year on loan and is now one of the top goal scorers for Flamengo, with eight goals in 13 matches.

Brazil and Argentina lead the South American qualifying group with two wins from two matches.
