Man found dead hanging from rope on Atlantic City hotel balcony

A 59-year-old man was found dead Monday hanging from a rope tied to an upper floor balcony of an Atlantic City hotel, city police said.

Investigators said the man was from Plainsboro, Middlesex County, but provided no additional information on his identity. He was found shortly before 5:30 a.m. at the 32-floor Club Wyndham Skyline Tower after a 911 call from a passerby.

Officers were escorted to a hotel room and discovered a rope tied around the balcony railing. The city fire department helped pull the body back to the balcony, police said.

City police Lieutenant Kevin Fair said Monday there was “no belief of criminal activity” related to the incident. He said an investigation is continuing into a cause of death.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Section at 609-347-5766 or text anonymously to tip411 (847411). Begin the text with ACPD.

The hotel is located a block from the Atlantic City Boardwalk and features balconies with ocean and city views, according to a brochure.

Actor Found Dead In Virginia Hotel Room While Quarantining

Actor Bert Belasco, who starred on the BET sitcom “Let’s Stay Together,” died Sunday at the age of 38.

There has been no confirmed cause of death. Belasco died at a hotel outside Richmond, Virginia.

“On November 8, 2020, the Henrico County Police Division responded to a hotel located in the 1000 block of Virginia Center Parkway for a medical emergency. Upon arrival, first responders found an adult male, later identified as 38-year-old Bert Belasco III, of Woodland Hills, Calif., deceased,” a spokesperson for Henrico County Police wrote in an email. “Hotel staff, who had received a call to check on Mr. Belasco’s welfare when family and friends could not reach him, called the Division’s Emergency Communications Center at 2:52 a.m. Mr. Belasco was pronounced on scene.”

Belasco’s father, Bert Sr., told TMZ that his son was found dead after hotel staff went to check on him. The actor had been quarantining for two weeks leading up to a new movie. Belasco’s girlfriend reportedly called the hotel when she had not heard from him.

Bert Sr. thinks his son died of an aneurysm.

There was an outpouring of support and best wishes after reports surfaced of Belasco’s death.

Belasco was most known for playing Charles Whitmore on “Let’s Stay Together,” but he was also made appearances on other popular shows like “NCIS,” “Key and Peele” and “I’m Dying Up Here.”

Belasco was a native of South Carolina and a 2005 graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, according to a profile by the Southern Illinoisan in 2011.

A Fort Hood soldier has been arrested in connection with the 2019 killing of 32-year-old Chelsea Lynell Cheatham in Killeen, Texas, according to a news release from the Killeen Police Department.

Cory Grafton, an active-duty soldier assigned to the Texas base, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with felony first-degree murder in connection with death of 32-year-old Chelsea Lynell Cheatham, according to a statement from the Killeen Police Department.

The 20-year-old was being held on $1 million bond and remained behind bars on Thursday, CNN reported.

Police were responding to a Days Inn motel in Killeen on June 3, 2019 when they found Cheatham unconscious and not breathing. Authorities attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead on the scene.

Initially, it was unclear whether Cheatham died of natural causes, but a recent autopsy labeled her death a homicide.

The case went unsolved for more than year until Texas Rangers — which recently received a grant for DNA testing — approached local authorities about analyzing genetic evidence from the crime scene.

DNA found on the victim was linked to Grafton and one of his co-workers told investigators he confessed to slaying.

Police said that a witness also was able to place Grafton at the hotel the night of the murder.

Authorities have not yet revealed a motive in the case and it’s unclear whether Grafton and Cheatham knew each other.

“We confirm that Spc. Corey L. Grafton is an active duty Soldier assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood,” Lt. Col. Chris Brautigam told CNN. He said military records listed Grafton’s first name as Corey, but police and jail records list it as Cory.

“The unit continues to cooperate with the Killeen Police Department and the Texas Rangers.”

College Station Parks & Recreation handing out free arts and crafts packets to celebrate Day of the Dead

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The College Station Parks & Recreation Department is handing out free arts and crafts packets all week to celebrate the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead.

The packets are the beginning of a cultural series the department is starting by promoting different traditions in an effort to better understand our friends’ and neighbors’ cultures.

City of College Station Recreation Manager Ana Romero says her own family experiences inspired her to come up with the idea to put the packets together.

“I come from a Mexican background where my family has built alters every year for Day of the Dead, starting with my great-grandma,” Romero said. “It’s just been a tradition that we continue to do in remembrance of everyone who’s not with us anymore.”

Each packet includes a fact sheet about Day of the Dead, coloring sheets, and crafts that capture the spirit of the holiday. People can stop by the CSPR office at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park and pick up as many as they want for their kids between October 26 and 30. Those interested can even call in advance and request someone to bring a packet out to their car.

Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is a Mexican traditional holiday that celebrates family members and friends who have passed. It is usually celebrated on November 1 and 2. Romero says November 2 tends to be the day where people celebrate with anything that makes them remember those who are not here with us anymore.

“Making any type of food or drinks they used to have or doing any of the things they used to do while they were alive are popular ways to celebrate,” Romero said. “Sometimes, the only way you can remember things like that is when someone in your family who got to meet them tells a story about it, and those are some of the things you get to share with people on November 2.”

Romero says the parks and recreation department plans to make another packet available in February to celebrate Black History Month.

Man Found Dead In Delhi Hotel Room: Cops

Man Found Dead In Delhi Hotel Room: Cops

Financial crisis is cited as a reason behind the extreme step, police said. (Representational)

New Delhi:

A 42-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his hotel room in Central Delhi’s Nabi Karim area, police said on Saturday.

Balwinder Singh, a resident of Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, was in the garment business. He had come to Delhi for work and was staying at the hotel for the last three-four days, they said.

Police said a 10-page suicide note has been recovered where its stated that no one is responsible for his death.

Police, however, said they are analysing it. Financial crisis is cited as a reason behind the extreme step, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sanjay Bhatia said, “On Friday, we received information from a hotel that a customer was not opening his room’s door since morning. “On reaching the spot, Mr Singh was found hanging from the ceiling fan with his turban. He was immediately rushed to RML Hospital where he was declared brought dead.”

He said inquest proceedings have been initiated and the body has been preserved at mortuary for next 72 hours, after taking samples for COVID-19.

The relatives of the man, including his brother Lakhwinder, were examined and their statements were recorded. They do not expect any fwrongdoing into the incident, police said.
