Aspen Recreation Center | City of Aspen Recreation

The Climbing Tower is a non-instructional activity that is available seven days a week. This activity is included in the daily admission fee. All climbers must check in at the front desk and receive the stamp of the day before entering the climbing tower area.

School Year:

Monday – Friday: 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM
Saturday & Sunday: 12:00PM to 6:00PM

Summer, Winter Break & Spring Break:

 Daily: 12:00PM to 6:00PM

1. ARC staff is in charge of the climbing area. Please follow their instructions. Staff reserves the right to revoke climbing privileges. The goal is to stay safe and have fun!
2. Climbing on the tower is prohibited unless an ARC staff member is present.
3. Check in at the desk and get a stamp, before climbing.
4. ONLY ARC staff may hook and unhook you to the climbing tower!
5. Choose Shoes:
          a. Our Climbing Shoes
          b. Your closed toed shoes
6. See ARC staff for harness
          a. ARC staff reserve the right to check harnesses for fit at any time.
7. NO WET CLOTHES of any kind!! Must wear shirt, shoes, and pants of some kind.
8. Choose a level that meets your climbing strength.
          a. Lower numbers are EASIER
          b. Higher numbers are HARDER
9. Stand on the GREEN FLOOR behind the number you wish to climb.
          a. Stay off of the blue climbing mat until it is your turn to be hooked up
10. Our Staff is trained! For your safety, follow their instructions.
11. Grabbing hold of any auto belay devices, lighting fixtures or pieces of the building is prohibited.
12. Swinging on descent is prohibited.
13. Bouldering (un-roped climbing) is NOT permitted at ARC climbing wall.
14. No food or drinks allowed around the climbing tower area (roped in area).
15. HAVE FUN!!!

Because our heating and ventilation system is completely computerized and is extremely sensitive to air quality, we do not permit the use of chalk at the climbing tower.

Further consideration for prohibiting chalk is as follows, “According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, many scientific studies have shown breathing small particles can cause aggravated asthma, coughing, difficult or painful breathing, chronic bronchitis, decreased lung function, premature death.”

Please read carefully before signing. This is a legally binding agreement.

Through your purchase of the activities and use of the facilities as referenced herein, you agree to all the terms and conditions contained herein and give up your right to bring a course of action to recover compensation or obtaining any remedy for any injury to yourself of your property or for your death, however caused, arising out of your participation in the activities referenced herein or in use of City of Aspen facilities, now or anytime in the future.

Take time out to come in and visit our facility and try a new class or program this winter. Galax Parks and Recreation Department cordially invites you to come and participate in our many programs and activities.  At our facility you will find many options to meet your fitness and leisure needs. Our programs include a variety of aquatics, sports, and senior programs. Our goal is to provide the community with fitness and leisure options to help our citizens enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and learn a new activity.  Make fitness a part of your daily routine in 2020.  If you are new to the area stop by the Galax Recreation Center and take a tour of our facilities and also enjoy a first time visit pass to participate in one of our classes, cardio or weight room for free.  In closing, we look forward to you visiting with us at the Galax Recreation Center and enjoying one of our many special events in the park.

We have installed our new cardio equipment in our Galax Recreation Center cardio room.  The new equipment was made possible through the    (TCCF ) Twin County Community Foundation Grant.  We at the Galax Recreation Department would like to say Thank You to the TCCF for making this new equipment available to us to share with our local citizens as we continue to make our community healthier.  Our new machines include 2  Elliptical machines, Stair Climber, 2 Recumbent Bikes, Upright Bike, and Rowing machine.

Be sure to come out to our updated Fitness facilities and enjoy a great workout each day at an affordable price.
Below is our rates for our Cardio Room and Weight rooms or combined rooms. There is no contracts or memberships just pay a fee each month with whichever facility fits you or your families needs.

History of the Center

The recreation center was dedicated on November 30, 1993 to serve the residents of the community.

Directions and Bus Route

Map this location

From Interstate 15, exit Mercy Road and travel west. Turn right on Black Mountain Road. Turn left at the first light, Canyonside Park Road. The center is located next to the Rancho Peñasquitos Preserve which offers trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.

The center is not accessible by bus.

This is a Limited Access Recreation Center.

Interested in learning computers or multimedia production? Visit the media lab in your recreation center and sign up for a wide range of programs! Media Education workshops are free with membership and open to people of all ages and abilities.

Every day, the pool schedule and any special announcements can be accessed by calling the center at (718) 599-5707.

Please note: This facility shuts its doors at closing time.  Registration hours end at least 30 minutes before closing time. Other activities may shut down 15 minutes early. 

Recreation centers operate in seasonal schedules, with program availability additionally affected by Parks’ afterschool and summer camps. Programs rotate in the following increments: January – March, April – June, July – September and October – December.

Media Labs follow their own 6-12 week schedules, depending on the type of class being offered.


On holidays (New Year’s Day and Eve, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Easter,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Eve, and
