AVON LAKE, Ohio – Deck the House, a holiday lights contest is featured for the third year by the Avon Lake Recreation Department.
Recreation Director Tim Pinchek said, “If you take holiday décor seriously, putting up lights as a family-affair, you can compete for bragging rights this year—and win a prize too.” (The prize is still to be decided upon.)
The contest is being held to find the best holiday light displays in the city. There is no fee to enter.
Pinchek said, “Put up a display at your home or business within Avon Lake. Take a picture of your work and submit it to the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation office by December 9.”
Here are the rules and how to submit your photo to the Deck the House holiday lighting contest:
· The contest is open to all residents and businesses in Avon Lake.
· Each entrant must decorate their house during November 2020 and up to December 9, 2020.
· By submitting an entry, contestants grant the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation permission and authority to use the pictures in any reasonable advertising or promotional activities.
Photo submissions should include:
· A photograph of the decorated house or business.
· Families and groups in the pictures are welcome.
· Family name and address.
Email photos to: [email protected] or drop off the photo at the Avon Lake Recreation Department at 150 Avon Belden Road.
Voting will take place from December 11-15. At 12 noon on December 15 the winner will be announced.
Turkey Bowl Football Tournament
A first-time ever turkey bowl football tournament for grades 3-12 will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21. Create your own division teams for the one-day games then championship games are the next day on Nov. 22. There will be officials for the games and at least 14 players are needed for each division. Register your team at online at the recreation department’s web site: https://www.avonlake.org/parksrec.
Turkey-burn Fitness Class
A Turkey-burn fitness class will take place Nov. 25 in the morning, the day prior to Thanksgiving. No registration needed. Just show up for one of two, one-hour classes at 7 a.m. or 8:15 a.m.at the Old Firehouse Community Center, 100 Avon Belden Road. $10 per person.
Last Star-Party of 2020
Just show up on Monday, Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m. for the last Star-Party of the Year at Walker Road Park by the pavilion. NASA will bring telescopes for the family. Pinchek said Jupiter and Saturn should be viewable on that date. CDC guidelines will be followed.
