Homepage | VacationCRM

Owner Vacations To Remember

After 30 years in the travel industry and 20 as an agency owner, someone suggested I try VacationCRM when I
complained of my paper trail/archaic filing system. I am very much an old dog and DO NOT like new tricks
but business had grown to approximately $2M in sales per year with 15+ independant contractors so the old
file folders were just not cutting it. And I needed a way to collect client credit card information without
spending 15 minutes chatting every time someone called to make a payment. I contacted Steve Kelly with a
million questions and he instantly helped me realize VacationCRM was the answer to my prayers. However..
old dog… new tricks. HOW would I learn all of this? Steve assured me he would be there for me every step
of the way and he was! At first I only planned to utilize about 50% of the system thinking I would need or
couldn’t learn the rest. Steve promised I would eventually come to learn it and love it. BOY was he right!
I now use about 85% of the program and I can’t image life without it. Traveling is so much easier since I
have every single thing I need right on my laptop or phone. My in-office staff can pull up a reservation
in VacationCRM and tell clients everything they need to know vs. asking me or trying to decipher my chicken
scratch in our old filing system. My desk is clear of paperwork and I feel like I won the lottery with this
CRM. It has literally changed my life and I thank Steve and the creators often for that! Julie Lanham

Sally Black – Founder

I HIGHLY recommend VacationCRM! Frankly I can’t imagine how we ever survived before without it. As an online
host agency, it used to be such a chore managing records and sales of all our virtual ICs. Now with VacationCRM’s
Dashboard it’s easy for me to have a detailed, organized view of all our operations, easily manage customer
care and have a grip on all our accounting. In addition, I no longer worry about chasing down customer payment
details and maintaining security. It’s the easiest and most comprehensive back office system out there.

Kim Goldstein – Journeys Inc

VacationCRM has allowed our agency to reach a new level of productivity by minimizing duplication in our process
and eliminating many spreadsheets that we used to use to track our sales. The Groups tracking and reporting
makes managing groups extremely simple. The VCRM Team is extremely quick in answering questions and taking
suggestions for future enhancements. I can’t imagine working without it now!

Here’s Why Every Employee Should Have Unlimited Vacation Days

5 min read

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

Since 2004, Netflix employees have taken as many vacation days as they’ve wanted. They have the freedom to decide when to show up for work, when to take time off, and how much time it will take them to get the job done. As far as I can tell, this hasn’t hurt Netflix one bit. Since instituting the policy, it’s grown its market cap to over $51 billion.

Just because there’s flexibility at Netflix doesn’t mean it lacks accountability. Employees have to keep their managers in the loop, and they’re expected to perform at a very high level. High performance is so ingrained into Netflix culture that they reward adequate performance with a generous severance package.

Netflix employees have unlimited vacation because no one is tracking their time. Instead of micromanaging how people get their jobs done, the leadership focuses only on what matters—results. They’ve found that giving people greater autonomy creates a more responsible culture. Without the distraction of stifling rules, employees are more focused and productive.

Why traditional vacation had to go

When Netflix still had your typical vacation policy, employees asked an important question:

“We don’t track the time we spend working outside of the office—like e-mails we answer from home and the work we do at night and on weekends—so why do we track the time we spend off the job?”

Management listened. They couldn’t deny the simple logic behind the question.

Back in the industrial age, when people stood on the assembly line from 9 to 5, paying for time made sense. With advances in technology, however, that’s no longer the case. People work when work needs to be done, from wherever they are. There’s really no such thing as “after hours” anymore.

We’re now operating in a participation economy, where people are measured and paid for what they produce. Yet, when it comes to time off, we’re still clinging to the vestiges of the industrial economy, where people were paid for the time they spent on the job. This is a huge demotivator. Netflix realized this, and it changed its policy to reflect the way that work actually gets done.

Brazilian origins

While Netflix was one of the first notable American companies to take on an unlimited vacation policy, the idea didn’t start there. Brazilian company Semco has been quietly offering unlimited vacation for more than thirty years.

After a health scare when he was just 21, Ricardo Semler, the son of the company’s founder, realized that the schedule he was keeping was slowly killing him, and that if it could kill him, then it could kill his employees too. So, he made the radical decision to do away with schedules, sick days, and vacation time.

Contrary to the prevailing worry that productivity would plummet, Semler found that employees actually became more productive and fiercely loyal, and when the employees thrived, the company did,

National Lampoon’s Vacation – Wikipedia

National Lampoon’s Vacation, sometimes referred to as Vacation, is a 1983 American road comedy film directed by Harold Ramis and starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Randy Quaid, Dana Barron and Anthony Michael Hall. John Candy, Imogene Coca, Christie Brinkley and a young Jane Krakowski appear in supporting roles. The screenplay was written by John Hughes, based on his short story “Vacation ’58” which appeared in National Lampoon.

The film was a box-office hit, earning more than $60 million in the U.S. with an estimated budget of $15 million, and received positive reviews from critics. As a result of its success, four sequels have been produced: European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989), Vegas Vacation (1997), and most recently, Vacation (2015) which serves as both a reboot and a continuation. In 2000, readers of Total Film voted it the 46th greatest comedy film of all time.[3] It continues to be a cult film and a staple on cable television.

Clark Griswold, wanting to spend more time with his wife Ellen and children Rusty and Audrey, decides to lead the family on a cross-country expedition from the Chicago suburbs to the southern California amusement park Walley World, billed as “America’s Favorite Family Fun Park.” Ellen wants to fly, but Clark insists on driving, so he can bond with his family. He has ordered a new car in preparation for the trip, but the dealer claims that it will not be ready for six weeks. Clark is forced to accept a Wagon Queen Family Truckster, an ugly, out-sized station wagon, as the 2nd generation Vista Cruiser he brought to trade in has already been hauled away and crushed.

During the family’s travels, they experience numerous mishaps, such as being tagged by vandals in East St. Louis, Illinois, while Clark is tantalized on numerous occasions by a beautiful young woman driving a flashy red Ferrari 308 GTS. They stop in Coolidge, Kansas to visit Ellen’s cousin Catherine and her husband Eddie, who foist cranky Aunt Edna and her mean dog Dinky on the Griswolds, asking them to drop her off at her son Norman’s home in Phoenix. After stopping at a decrepit and dirty campground in South Fork, Colorado for the night, Clark forgets to untie Dinky’s leash from the bumper before driving off the next morning, killing the dog. A state trooper pulls the Griswolds over and angrily lectures Clark over animal cruelty but accepts Clark’s apology; Edna learns of her dog’s death and becomes more irate with Clark. Exiting Colorado, Ellen loses her bag which had her credit cards.

While Ellen and Clark argue during a drive between Utah and Arizona, they crash and become stranded in the desert near Monument Valley. Clark and Rusty have a bonding experience explaining why he wants to take this vacation. After setting off alone in the desert to look for help, Clark eventually reunites with his family, who have been rescued and taken
