Input Sought On Businesses, Recreation Along Fox River

Press release from McHenry County Department of Planning and Development:

Oct. 17, 2020

McHenry County, the City of McHenry, and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning are seeking public input on the ongoing Fox River Corridor Plan.

The project seeks to create a comprehensive plan for the future of the Fox River along the study area, which stretches eight miles from North Chapel Hill Road in Johnsburg south to Burtons Bridge at Route 176. The ongoing plan will focus on commerce along business districts adjacent to the river, public access and recreational use, environment and natural resources, and transportation connections to the river.

The public is encouraged to learn more about the plan, submit input, and take a survey by visiting the project website at https://engage.cmap.illinois.gov/fox-river-mchenry.

The Fox River Corridor planning project will outline strategies and actions for communities to take to realize their long-term vision for the corridor. The project team will engage residents, business owners and other stakeholders – such as riverfront property owners, marina operators, boaters, and environmental and bicycle advocates – to craft recommendations that reflect the needs and vision of the corridor community when it comes to recreation, open space, transportation and economic development.

The study area includes the municipalities of McHenry, Johnsburg, Holiday Hills and Prairie Grove, and unincorporated Burtons Bridge, as well as numerous conservation areas, parks and nature preserves.

This project builds upon the foundation of two previous Fox River Corridor plans – one completed in 2015 for Algonquin and Carpentersville, and another in 2018 for McHenry and Lake counties.

Public input sought for Vernon County Outdoor Recreation Plan | News

Vernon County is in the process of updating its Outdoor Recreation Plan and is looking for public participation in a short survey.

The purpose of the Vernon County Outdoor Recreation Plan is to identify issues, opportunities, needs and organize public policy to address them in a manner that makes the best and most appropriate use of county resources. It will also describe a desired future for community outdoor recreation over the next five years and establish goals to move toward that future.

“In addition to tourism economic impacts for our local communities, outdoor recreation is a significant industry driving Vernon County’s economy and providing quality of life for our residents. Being strategic about updating this plan for improving our current and enhancing our future outdoor recreation is a great step,” says Christina Dollhausen, Vernon County’s Economic Development & Tourism Coordinator.

Vernon County’s Outdoor Recreation Plan is actively being developed with participation by county committees, outdoor recreation entities countywide and most importantly, the community.
