National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – Wikipedia

1989 US family comedy film directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a 1989 American comedy film, it is the third installment in National Lampoon’s Vacation film series, and was written by John Hughes, based on his short story in National Lampoon magazine, “Christmas ’59”.[2] The film stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo and Randy Quaid, with Juliette Lewis and Johnny Galecki as the Griswold children Audrey and Rusty, respectively.[3]

Since its release, Christmas Vacation has often been labeled as a modern Christmas classic[citation needed]. It is widely regarded as the best sequel of the Vacation series[citation needed], and is the only sequel to have its own direct sequel: a 2003 made-for-TV release titled National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure. Christmas Vacation is the last theatrical Vacation film to carry the National Lampoon label and to feature a screenwriting credit from Hughes.

Chicago resident Clark Griswold plans to have a great Christmas with his entire family. He gathers his wife Ellen, daughter Audrey, and son Rusty and drives out to the country to a tree farm. After walking through the snow for hours, Clark finds the largest tree he can. Realizing too late that they did not bring any tools to cut the tree down, they are forced to uproot it instead, before driving home with the tree strapped to the roof of their car.

Soon after, both Clark’s and Ellen’s parents arrive to spend Christmas, but their bickering quickly begins to annoy the family. Clark, however, maintains a positive attitude, determined to have a “fun old-fashioned family Christmas.” He covers the house’s entire exterior with 25,000 twinkle lights, which fail to work at first, as he has accidentally wired them through his garage’s light switch. When they finally come on, they temporarily cause a citywide power shortage and create chaos for Clark’s yuppie neighbors, Todd and Margo. While standing on the front lawn admiring the lights, Clark is shocked to see Ellen’s redneck cousin Catherine and her husband Eddie, as they arrive unannounced with their children, Rocky and Ruby Sue, and their Rottweiler dog, Snots. Eddie later admits that they are living in the RV they arrived in, as he is broke and has been forced to sell his home and acreage. Clark offers to buy gifts for Eddie’s kids so they can still enjoy Christmas. Soon afterward, Clark’s Aunt Bethany and Uncle Lewis arrive as well.

Clark begins to wonder why his boss Frank Shirley has not given him his yearly bonus, which he desperately needs to replace an advance payment he has made to install a swimming pool for the coming summer. After a disastrous Christmas Eve dinner, along with Uncle Lewis accidentally burning down the Christmas tree, he finally receives an envelope from a company messenger, who had failed to deliver it the day before. Instead of the presumed bonus, the envelope contains a free year’s membership for the “Jelly

Vacation | Employee Benefits

Overview

Eligible employees are granted vacation at time of hire and is prorated for the year based on start date (see below). Vacation is then granted at the start of the fiscal year (July 1) for Faculty, Academic Staff and Limited Appointees and at the start of the calendar year (January 1) for University Staff employees.

Once vacation is granted, it may be used before it’s earned for that annual period. Vacation may be used from the first day of employment and like all other paid leave, must be approved by your supervisor.

If vacation is not used within the year it is earned, it may be carried over into the following year. If vacation is not used by the end of the carryover period, it will be lost.

Faculty, Academic Staff and Limited Appointees

Granted 176 hours (22 days) of vacation per fiscal year; prorated if part-time. The fiscal year is July 1 – June 30.

University Staff Employees (does not include crafts workers)

Vacation is granted at the start of the calendar year (January 1) for University Staff.

Accrual is based on years of continuous service and your Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status. Refer to your appointment letter to determine your FLSA status.

 Crafts workers

University Staff employees who are crafts workers are granted vacation hours differently. Crafts workers will be provided vacation in accordance with provisions in UW System Administrative Policy 1210 (formerly BN 1): Vacation, Paid Leave Banks, and Vacation Cash Payouts, except as indicated in UW System Administrative Policy 1238 (formerly GEN 21) Crafts Workers.

Leave Banking

Once certain eligibility requirements are met, employees have the opportunity to bank (save) unused vacation for use at a later date. Note: Crafts workers are not eligible to bank unused vacation.

Banked vacation:

  • Accumulates from year to year without limit and does not expire
  • Can be used like any other paid leave (must be approved by your supervisor)
  • May be able to receive a portion of eligible banking amount as a cash payout (University Staff only)

The option to bank vacation hours is offered in July for eligible Faculty, Academic Staff and Limited Appointees. The option to bank vacation and/or receive a vacation cash payout is offered in late fall of each year for eligible University Staff.

ARD Playgrounds Closed until further notice

ARD COVID-19 update

March 20, 2020 – Per the State’s stay-at-home order, ARD has greatly reduced its staffing. We will be operating with the bare minimum of staffing until at least April 10th, unless otherwise modified. Because of this, ARD has instituted the following:

All ARD parks are still open for use. Park users are reminded to maintain a social distance of 6 feet. Please see this article for more information.
All ARD playgrounds are closed. Playground closures will be reassessed as we receive more information from Placer County Public Health.
All ARD park bathrooms will be opened on a modified basis beginning March 21. Bathrooms will be opened between 7-8am and closed between 6-7pm. The bathrooms may be closed during the Stay-At-Home order due to new information, new orders or a lack of supplies.
All ARD community centers will be closed during the stay-at-home order.
As is standard procedure, parks and facilities may be closed after a rain event. You can find out which facilities are closed by visiting our field conditions page.

The changes listed are subject to change should further directives be issued or new information provided.

As stated above, ARD is doing everything it can to meet the stay-at-home order, and will not have park staff available to provide our standard park maintenance. You may see staff mowing or weed-eating during this time, as we need to keep up on these basic tasks or face larger problems when we return. We appreciate your cooperation during this time.
